21 Grams Movie Review

Actors

Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Naomi Watts

Movie Review

I really wanted to begin this review with the last paragraph but then I thought against it. 21 Grams rates as one of the most frustrating films I have ever watched. Now I love movies such as Pulp Fiction and Memento where the story lines are merged and the timing means they don't follow an exact chronological order, but this one was just plain stupid.

I fail to see what the director thought he was doing when editing it. To just put in a bunch of different scenes in no particular order is beyond comprehension to me. The story is quite a good one with the lives of the three main characters all crossing paths because of one particular incident and then follows them for a while after to see what the effect is. As I read in another review, when a good story is being told the listener concentrates on the story and the method of delivery takes a back seat. In the case of 21 Grams the delivery is everything and the actual sotry takes a back seat. This is not the way it should be done.

How they actually split this up into chapters, or scenes, for the DVD edition is amazing. There was no order what so ever to this one and I don't think I would even benefit from watching it again, not that I would even bother to find out.

Watch it if you are a fan of any of the actors but that is about the only reason to see it.

Useless Information

Apparently the fragmented approach is the way the director thinks and speaks. how frustrating would it be to work with him?
