Movie Review
A great feature written and directed by Michael Mann who really knows how to make a crime feature. He worked on the Miami Vice television series before moving on to feature films and has since made a few worthy ones.
This is the first film to feature Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the same scenes. They were both in The Godfather, however, they never shared the screen together. I'll pretty much watch anything that has either of these two in it, so it is a bonus when they are both in the same film. Be prepared though, it is about three hours long. Sometimes this is a turn off for me, but in this case I don't think it gets bogged down and in my opinion doesn't slow down.
De Niro leads a team of theives who are tracked by a cop played by Pacino. He's married to his job and on the downhill part of his thrid marriage. De Niro's attitude is not to get involved in anything you can't walk away from in thirty seconds if you have to.
The film moves through a couple of jobs, with Pacino always on the heels of De Niro. There are a number of well known supporting actors including a long haired Jon Voight, a similarly long haired Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd and Amy Brenneman. Didn't like Brenneman in the television show Judging Amy and didn't like her in this one either.
Pacino is very intense and watch out for the scene where he is talking to the guy from Vegas. The look in his eyes is spooky.
