Movie Review
One of the movies that I wonder why it took me so long before I watched it. Before you even see it you know it has the makings of a good comedy just because of the pedigree of the people who made it. Todd Phillips is the writer/director and he was also responsible for Road Trip. Ivan Reitman was one of the producers and he works goes back as far as Animal House and Stripes, two of the funniest moviest around. The three leads are played by Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn. I finally chose to watch this one because of an article in GQ magazine about Will Ferrell and comments that it was he best movie so far. I thought he was good in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and his wackiness appears again.
I've never quite understood the fraternity system. Not going to college in America might explain my ignorance, but t just seems like an way for young adults to avoid the real life and put them in an environment that is not conducive to studying. My friends and I have always had a joke about buying a property and turning it into a frat house. In fact this movie could be about us, only we just talk about it and never did anything about it.
Ellen Pompeo and Lisa Rimini are also reasons to watch it. Towards the end when Ellen is talking to Luke Wilson is magic. I can't believe they didn't mention in in the commentary. Lisa plays the female lead in the television series King of Queens whch is a show most viewers watch and are constantly thinking, "how does a guy marry a girl like that?", or is it just me?
Speaking of the commentary on the DVD, you know it is going to be a good one when it has Todd, Luke, Will and Vince all talking about their experiences. Lacks a bit of technical stuff but more than makes up for it with the comedy. A running story about Luke Wilson's eyebrows, Kevin and Shorty, is funny. A few bloopers and outtakes but not nearly as many as I hoped, based on what I've read about Will Ferrell. Apparently the takes just get funnier and funnier.
