Movie Review
Most would consider this just a forgettable film with Keanu Reeves and Gene hackman, and wonder why those two ever agreed to be in it. Sure it's not in the same league as Remeber The Titans or Any Given Sunday as far as football movies go, but I still liked it. Just not as serious as the other two.
The story follows a football team of replacement players who get a chance in the big leagues because the regular players are on strike for more money. It is a cinderella story and that is obvious from the beginning, however, there are plent of good bits. Hackman is the coach and Reeves is the former star quarterback who was injured early in his career and now cleans the underside of boats for a living. Does part of this sound familiar? Yes, he was also a star footballer who was injured in Point Break.
The rest of the cast are criminals, cops, soccer player and generally not football players. They are all recruited because they have one unique ablity, be it throwing, catching, blocking or tackling. It all culminates in the big game and I won't ruin the film with the result.
After watching this I purchased the soundtrack from the local movie store. The assistant said, "yeah this was the best thing about the film." I don't agree and suggest you watch it.
